"Nobody Gets Work Sitting Idle": Anupama Prakash Gets Real About Rejection, Networking And Staying Afloat In The Industry

Actress-producer Anupama Prakash isn't one to sugarcoat things. In a candid chat about life in the entertainment business, she made it clear that talent alone doesn't pay the bills - hustle does. Known for shows like Prabha Ki Diary, Farzi Kaka and Risknamaa, and now building her own slate under Kaccha Lemmon Productions, Anupama has seen the industry from both sides of the camera, and she isn't holding back on what she's learned.

One of the biggest hurdles, she says, isn't lack of talent but reluctance to ask for work. "It's not always about ego. Sometimes experienced actors feel they've already done good work and don't want to approach people for smaller opportunities. But nobody gets work sitting idle. You have to reach out to producers, directors and casting professionals," she says.

That outreach, she admits, rarely goes smoothly. Disappointment and empty promises come with the territory. "You'll meet good people and bad people. Even after doing 100 meetings, maybe only two will lead to genuine work. But you still have to continue because this industry demands persistence," she explains.

Networking, in her view, has become just as important as ability. "Talent alone is not enough. If people don't know you or your work, then what's the use of talent? Networking plays a huge role," she says.

Anupama also touched on a struggle many actors quietly deal with - the discomfort of self-promotion. Social media, she says, is no longer optional in today's casting landscape. "Many actors go through rejection, depression and fear after failed projects or broken agreements. But if you stop trying, you have to begin from zero again. You have to keep posting, auditioning and showing your work," she adds.

She's equally candid about how fleeting recognition can be in this business. "One year an actor becomes famous and the next year people don't even see them anywhere. The industry moves very fast. If you keep working and improving, opportunities will keep coming," she says.

Beyond acting, Anupama has been steadily expanding her footprint as a producer, with her banner Kaccha Lemmon Productions behind titles like Band Baaja Aafat and Mr. Reddy.
