'The Mushrooms' Brings Back '80s Bollywood Romance with Retro Track 'Kaisi Hai Ye Shaam Aaj Ki'

There's something about the old Hindi film songs - that unhurried, tender way they used to portray love - that never quite loses its charm. The upcoming film The Mushrooms is betting on exactly that nostalgia with its new track, "Kaisi Hai Ye Shaam Aaj Ki," a song that tries to transport listeners straight back to the golden days of '80s Bollywood.

Director Sreeja Barua Nalawade helms the song, which marks the first on-screen pairing of Anushka Kaushik and Abhijeet Nalawade. Abhijeet is already a familiar face in theatre, Marathi cinema and web series, and the song gives him a chance to explore a different kind of screen presence alongside Kaushik. Singer Tarannum Malik Jain provides the vocals, while composer Paresh Shah takes on the job of recreating the sound of a decade defined by lush melodies and unabashed romance.

Talking about what pushed her toward this retro route, Nalawade said she's long been fascinated by how simple and honest old Hindi cinema used to be with its emotions. With this song, she wanted to fold that same spirit into the world she's building with The Mushrooms.

The result, according to the makers, is a mix of vintage glamour and old-world romance dressed up for a modern audience - nostalgic in feel but shot with a contemporary sensibility. The Mushrooms is jointly produced by Sreeja Barua Nalawade and Abhijeet Nalawade, and is presented by Lasaki Mediaworks.
