Taher Shabbir & Sheena Chohan Star in 'Walls', A Short Film About Loneliness and Human Connection

Taher Shabbir and Sheena Chohan are coming together to headline the short film Walls, directed by Fraser Scott, which delves into themes of isolation, human connection, and the emotional barriers people build around themselves.

The story centres on Monisha, a reclusive sound engineer whose work is interrupted when her chatty neighbour Ekansh starts noisily shifting house. What begins as an attempt to silence him turns into their first genuine conversation after years of living next door to one another - sparking a connection that finally pushes her to "lower her walls."

Conceived as a close look at modern-day isolation, Walls examines how two people can share a wall for years without exchanging a word, and how one chance encounter can change everything.

Talking about the project, Taher Shabbir shared, "I loved the vision of the director and the film. After a long time, I played a character who is fun-loving, closer to what I'm like in real life. Sheena was a great co-star to work with, as I've always felt she's a good actor. I also believe that a film is about the people you work with, and there are some really lovely people associated with this project. Because of the people Fraser and Sheena are, is why I said yes to the project."

Sheena Chohan spoke about her character's emotional arc, saying that Monisha is a woman who has shut herself off after suffering a loss, and it was the vulnerability hidden beneath her quietness that attracted her to the role. She said she enjoyed portraying a woman cut off from those around her, and what unfolds when someone breaks through that distance unexpectedly. Chohan praised working with Shabbir, noting the warmth and playfulness he brought to Ekansh, and added that Fraser's clear, sensitive vision for the film resonated with her because the story taps into something universal - how isolating it can feel even when people are physically close by.

Writer-director Fraser Scott revealed that the idea for Walls came to him while watching the old walls of Versova being replaced by taller ones, which led him to reflect on what such structures symbolise about the distance between people and the loneliness of contemporary life. He expressed gratitude that the story resonated instantly with Shabbir, Chohan, and the rest of the team who helped bring it to life.

Walls is co-produced by Vedic Productions and RAT Films, with Pranjal Picha as Director of Photography. Suchitra Pillai voices the antagonist, Prashant Ingole has composed the music, and Sam Das is on board as Creative Producer.

The makers noted that the film boasts a strong cast in Chohan and Shabbir, who bring layered performances to a drama helmed by writer-director Fraser Scott. They described Walls as a story grounded in real human experience that speaks directly to today's world. The short film is currently in post-production and is being readied for a national release, a run on the international film festival circuit, and an eventual OTT premiere.
