Entertainment Lawyer Rohini Vakil Recognised for Contributions to India's Legal Ecosystem

Mumbai-based entertainment lawyer Rohini Vakil has been honoured for her "esteemed contributions to the legal ecosystem," with the award presented at the launch of IP to IPO: Decolonizing Academic Startup Revolution, a new book authored by Umesh Rathod.

The launch event took place at the National Stock Exchange Auditorium in Mumbai and drew a mix of policymakers, legal professionals, industry leaders and startup founders. Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar attended as the chief guest, with Mangal Prabhat Lodha among the other dignitaries present.

Vakil has spent more than two decades working in the media and entertainment space, where she advises creators, producers, broadcasters and content owners on intellectual property and commercial rights. Her award acknowledged the role she has played in helping strengthen IP protection and commercialisation across India's creative industries.

The book itself examines how intellectual property is becoming a central driver of enterprise growth and economic value, with the launch event featuring discussions on the links between innovation, IP ownership, entrepreneurship and access to capital.

Speaking on trends in the entertainment sector, Vakil pointed out that IP is fast becoming one of the most valuable assets for content-driven businesses. She added that as India's creative economy grows, media and production companies are increasingly looking at new models for institutional growth, investment, and long-term value creation.

The conversation also tied into India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, with several speakers stressing the need to build stronger IP frameworks that allow creative businesses to scale. Vakil has been part of this push, advising entertainment companies on legal strategy, business structuring, and growth planning.

The recognition, organisers said, reflects her broader contribution to the legal profession and her continued work supporting creators and rights holders across India's media and entertainment industry.
