Mumbai's Mean Streets Come Alive as Chirag M. Trivedi Gears Up for His Directorial Debut

Chirag M. Trivedi has worn many hats in Bollywood - actor, producer, writer - but his most ambitious role yet might be the one behind the camera. The multi-hyphenate filmmaker is counting down to the theatrical release of HEAT CITY: Antarpath Chapter 1, a crime drama he wrote, directed, produced, and stars in. And if the early buzz around its rap anthem is anything to go by, audiences are already paying attention.

The film's recently dropped track, "Sheher Hain Ye Mumbai," has struck a chord - particularly with younger listeners who seem to feel its pulse instantly. "It's getting a really good response, especially from the younger crowd," Trivedi says, clearly energized by the reception. "The song captures the true energy and spirit of Mumbai. It also depicts the gritty story of a fearless businessman taking on the city's ruthless mafia."

That energy wasn't accidental. Trivedi conceived the concept himself, drawing from his own intimate relationship with the city. "I love the way Mumbai keeps a perfect balance between hustle and chilling out," he explains. "It never stops moving, yet it always finds time to celebrate life." The result is a track that feels less like a film promotional number and more like a love letter - one written in rap, set against the city's unrelenting skyline.

On screen, Trivedi plays Veer Madhvani, a legal luxury trader whose moral code puts him on a collision course with the underworld. When smugglers attempt to exploit his shipments for illegal operations, Veer refuses to look the other way. But it's one catastrophic incident that ultimately pushes him to confront the mafia on their own brutal terms. "Veer is a man with strong values," Trivedi says, "but circumstances compel him to fight back - and that's where the story becomes intense and unpredictable."

It's the kind of character Trivedi has been building toward. Audiences who followed his OTT work will remember his chilling turn as Asif, a serial killer, in Disney+ Hotstar's The Tattoo Murders (2021), opposite Tanuj Virwani. He also earned widespread praise for his nuanced portrayal of cricket legend Rahul Dravid in Kaun Pravin Tambe?, the acclaimed Disney+ Hotstar biographical film produced by Friday Filmworks. Behind the scenes, he has produced two short films for Shemaroo Shorties - Town in Dark and RUSA, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi mystery rooted in the mythology of Samudra Manthan.

HEAT CITY boasts an ensemble cast including Jalak Motiwala, Priyank Pandav, Peeyush Patil, Muni Jha, Taj Sethi, Saachi Surve, Pratham Sharma, Gaurav Shivaji, Kishore Soni, and Vihaan Choudhary. The film unfolds across two compelling backdrops — the chaotic, charged streets of Mumbai and the landscapes of Kenya - blending action, crime, and emotional depth into what Trivedi hopes will be a fresh entry in the genre.

"I wanted to create something fresh and impactful in the crime drama space," he says. With a debut this layered, it seems he's well on his way.

HEAT CITY: Antarpath Chapter 1 is slated for a theatrical release later this year, followed by an OTT premiere.
