"Music Never Left Me": Anand Raaj Anand on Revisiting Welcome's Iconic Sound
Composer-singer Anand Raaj Anand opens up about revisiting his iconic 2007 hit "Uncha Lamba Kad" for Welcome to the Jungle, calling the experience nostalgic, magical and a natural continuation of his musical journey.
Nineteen years is a long time in Bollywood. Trends shift, stars rise and fall, and yesterday's chartbusters get buried under an avalanche of new releases. Yet here's the remarkable thing about "Uncha Lamba Kad" - it never really went away.
The song, composed, written and sung by Anand Raaj Anand for the 2007 blockbuster Welcome, has quietly lived on in reels, playlists and collective memory long after the film's theatrical run ended. Now, with Welcome to the Jungle arriving as the franchise's third installment, the track is back - recreated, reimagined, but unmistakably itself. Anand Raaj Anand returns as singer, this time joined by Rubai.
"The title Welcome itself feels like a signature in my life," Anand says, his voice carrying the warmth of someone genuinely moved by the reception. "It's almost as if people are saying, 'Anand, you're back.' I am overwhelmed by the love I have received - far more than I had imagined."
A Midnight Call That Became History
The origin story of "Uncha Lamba Kad" is the kind of anecdote that belongs in a Bollywood documentary. Anand recalls receiving an urgent call around midnight from the Welcome team - they needed three songs in just 15 days. No pressure, no rehearsal, just deliver.
