Adah Sharma Set to Make Marathi Debut with Gajra, First Look Sparks Buzz

Adah Sharma, who headlined India's highest-grossing female-led film The Kerala Story (over ₹375 crore at the box office), is set to make her Marathi film debut with Gajra, a big-budget production in which she stars in the title role.

The film's first poster, released this week, has already drawn considerable attention online. It shows Sharma in a blood-spattered red outfit, her gaze fixed intensely on the camera in an image that departs sharply from her previous on-screen avatars. The film is said to be inspired by true events and is being positioned as a dark, emotionally heavy drama.

Sharma has built her career on range rather than repetition. She has played a possessed bride in the horror franchise 1920, an undercover agent in The Kerala Story, an action lead in Commando, and a comic role in the web series Sunflower, alongside an offbeat part in Reeta Sanyal. She has also worked in Telugu cinema, with films like Heart Attack and Kshanam adding to her following in the south.

News of her Marathi debut began circulating after she posted a video announcement, in which she said the project was something of a promise kept - she had spoken earlier about wanting to work in Marathi cinema after the response The Kerala Story received from audiences in Maharashtra.

With Gajra now official, the casting has become one of the more talked-about entertainment stories of the week, with the first-look poster fuelling speculation about how unconventional the role might turn out to be.
