Esha Deol Returns to Screen with Horror-Comedy 'Ghoonghat'

Bollywood actress Esha Deol is set to make a striking comeback with her upcoming film Ghoonghat, a horror-comedy that marks a significant departure from her previous work. Directed by Rajeev Ruia and produced by Devesh Kumar, the film blends horror, comedy, romance, fantasy, and emotional drama into what the makers are calling a unique cinematic offering.

Speaking about the project, Deol said the genre combination presented a fresh creative challenge. "I have worked in horror and comedy films separately before, but this combination of the two is truly special and exciting," she said. The actress also indicated that the film carries a social and emotional message beyond its entertainment value.

The narrative is set in the fictional village of Jangipura and centres on the spirit of a woman named Bhoori, whose unresolved anguish places the entire village under a supernatural curse. The storyline, according to Deol, is designed to keep audiences simultaneously amused and unsettled. "It makes the audience laugh, scares them, and also leaves them with something to think about," she noted.

Ghoonghat represents Deol's first foray into the horror-comedy genre, a format that has gained considerable traction in Indian cinema in recent years. The project signals the actress's intent to diversify her on-screen portfolio and take on unconventional roles.

A release date for Ghoonghat has not yet been officially announced.
